There are two types of cold water systems that are generally fitted around most homes. Whether they are new or old. It is important that you know which type you have before you attempt any plumbing work. Of course if you are not a confident amateur plumber, then, you should always call on the services of a professional plumbing service. Lewisham Plumbers are a quality service.

Here is a brief explanation of each one:

The Indirect.

In this kind of cold water system, mains water enters your home under some pressure. Once inside, it will become two pipes. The first one will feed the kitchens cold water tap and the second one will supply water to your cold water storage tank that is usually situated in the loft. Your domestic systems are fed down at quite a lower pressure than the mains as it comes from the tank under the influence of gravity. Knowing which system you have is important before you attempt any mods or alter the plumbing. A Lewisham Plumber will know what system you have.

The Direct.

The direct system is fed by mains pressure water directly to the taps and if fitted, something like a multipoint boiler. Each and every outlet is at the mains pressure (many modern systems take all water from the mains and not a storage tank).

The direct system has, to a great extent, been replaced by the indirect cold water system. If you intend to repair, modify or extend your plumbing, it is important to know whether or not you have a direct Cold water system. You should also be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the system. The advantage of this system is that there is a lot less pipework and a good head of pressure.
