The House Has Two Systems.
The first of these systems delivers freshwater, with the second discharging the dirty water out and away to the sewage system. Initially, the water enters your home and is highly pressurised. This water pressure means that the water heads straight upstairs, and around corners, actually, everywhere it is needed. The supply is also routed through your water meter at the start of its journey in order to register and record the volume of water used. There will be a main water isolating valve, or main stop cock installed close to the meter. This is to isolate the water supply in case a plumbing emergency happens, because it is important that you can quickly and easily isolate the main valve. If you have a pipe burst, it will flood your home in minutes. If say, an emergency is confined to a sink, tub, or toilet, you should be able to isolate the immediate area and not the whole house. So, most fixtures will have individual isolating valves. Heating The Water.
A pipe takes the cold water from the system to your water heater. From this heater, a hot water line takes the hot water to all the fixtures and appliances connected in the home. A thermostat fitted on the heater maintains the temperature required by switching the heating elements on and off.
